Rakino Island 2018

Details of Project

This was the second Rakino Island build for the team. However, it was very different to the first, the main reason being the site topography. The site was very steep which required a lot of problem solving to get the cut to fill ratios correct, and end up with no leftover material to remove from the site.
Materials were taken over to the island on the barge, then helicoptered to the steep site. This required a huge amount of problem solving prior to the works starting, to figure out the capacity of each helicopter load as there was a weight limit to what the helicopter could carry. The helicopter completed over 40 trips from the barge that was anchored at sea to the site. Ryan managed this process, from the ordering of materials and packing onto the barge to the helicopter trips at the other end.
Ryan completed all of the earthworks and stabilised the site for car access. His team constructed the dwelling, and carried out the landscaping. This project required Ryan’s team to complete additional trades such as roofing and landscaping, due to the remoteness of the island and difficulty of getting resource to the location.
Stage one of the build is complete and stage two will be completed in 2019.
